What makes a 15?
No-one under the age of 15 is allowed to watch a 15 film at the cinema or buy/rent a ‘15’ rated DVD as they are not suited for the younger age.
Many horror films are rated certificate 15 as there can be strong threat and menace (as long as it is not sadistic or sexualised), although the strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable.

- Portrayals of sexual activity
- Strong verbal references to sex
- Sexual nudity
- Brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
- Discriminatory language or behaviour
- Drug taking

ARLINGTON ROAD: In the first two minutes of the film, we are shown a shot of a young boy walking down a typical wide American road. We don't see the boy talking but we hear diegetic voices saying "chicken, go on do it, do it". The boy has red eyes and is bruised all over his face. The camera then switches to an over the shoulder shot of a man driving in his car down the same road, he stops just behind where the boy is walking and notices that he is stumbling. Shouting "kid, kid!", he gets out of his car and approaches the boy, as the music gets louder and the tension grows we then see that the boy has major injuries to his hand and is covered in blood and burns. This opening would be very easy to do, all we would need is some make-up, fake blood and loud tense music.

CASE 39: In the first two minutes you are shown a shot of a dark, wrecked old fashioned house, the shot moves to inside the house and two people's feet walking up some stairs, you then see them open a bedroom door to see a young girl sleeping in her bed. Due to the light shining on her face, she wakes up and looks at the couple standing in her doorway, she then said "I can see you" and the couple then friskily close the door. In the next scene they show an over the shoulder shot of a mans tattooed shoulder, he is speaking to a woman about how his car broke down on the way to his 'blood check'. The woman then goes on to tell the man that his son has been in various fights in school that has led to someone being in hospital

HALLOWEEN: In the first two minutes the scene begins with tense screeching music with a high key piano tune, the lighting is very low, as if it was filmed in the dark. You see a point of view shot of someone looking into the window of a house, to the view of a couple going upstairs, the point of view shot moves to inside the house, walks towards the kitchen and picks up a knife. Someone then leaves the house and the camera moves up the stairs, as the music gets louder the location moves to a girl's room, she then says "Michael" as if she were talking to her younger brother (as the camera is shooting from a low height). The girl then screams - we then know what has happened as we saw him pick up the knife previously. This film opening would be fairly easy to reenact, as all we would need is a dark/gloomy setting to film in and spooky tense music.
