Main soundtrack for film opening

We have chosen this music in our film opening as we believe it generates a rather tense atmosphere. It gives a subtle vibe and keeps the attention on the film instead of the music.

First draft of film opening

This was our first attempt at filming - It's not completely finished as we need to re-film parts due to lighting issues. We are going to re-film the second half later in the evening as it makes the lighting more realistic for the time setting, compared to the added effects we used in Premiere Pro. We have added music tracks and sound effects to enhance the atmosphere.

Sub-genres of Horror:

Comedy-Horror
Comedy-Horror combines comedy with traditional horror movie themes and characters. Because of the subject matter, Comedy-Horror films can cross over into the Black Comedy sub-genre. Comedy-Horror films aim to scare the audience, but also provide comical outlets that let the audience laugh at their fear.
Examples: Beetlejuice, Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead.

Teen-Horror
Teen-Horror is a sub-genre that revolves completely around a teenager or a group of teenagers. Typically, these movies have a large cast and a clear hero or heroine. Teen-Horror films often play upon traditional teenage issues, such as dating and prom, and turn them into suspenseful and thrilling situations.
Examples: I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream, Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Monster-Horror
A Monster film is sub-genre of Horror that centers on a struggle between human beings and a monster(s). Often, the monster in the film has been created in an “experiment gone wrong.” The monster usually serves as a villain, and the film portrays a hero or heroine that ultimately saves the world from the monster. Although these movies commonly fall into the Horror genre, Monster films have a long tradition within Science-Fiction and Fantasy film as well.
Examples: Aliens, Godzilla, Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Slasher
Slasher film is a sub-genre of Horror film that revolves around a psychopathic killer. This killer stalks and murders his victims in extremely violent and memorable ways. Though it centers on a specific killer, the violence is what sets Slasher films apart from other horror films. A Slasher film will devote more screen time to portray murder and mayhem than a traditional Horror film.
Examples: Halloween, My Bloody Valentine, Black Christmas.

Supernatural-Horror
Supernatural-Horror film is a sub-genre that includes ghosts, demons, or other depictions of supernatural occurrences. Often, Supernatural-Horror films combine elements of religion into the plot. Common themes in Supernatural-Horror films include the afterlife, the devil, and demonic possession. Unlike Religious Thrillers, Supernatural-Horror films are not limited to specific religious elements and can contain more vivid and gruesome violence.
Examples: The Exorcist, The Ring, The Omen.

Zombie-Horror
Zombie film is a sub-genre of Horror film that portrays mindless human beings who are raised from the dead. These films often include a Zombie invasion, and center around Zombies feasting on human flesh. The plot of a Zombie film then revolves around the struggle between the living, and the living-dead. Zombie film not only falls into the Horror genre, but Sci-Fi, Thriller, and Comedy as well.
Examples: Night of the Living Dead, Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later.

Why people love horror movies

Some people absolutely love horror movies and can't get enough of them. They can sit there and watch them over and over. Most horror movie fans have all the DVD collections in their house and could sit there for days watching them.
Personally, I wouldn’t be caught dead watching a scary movie by myself. They freak me out, leaving me unsettled for days thinking the same paranormal events are happening to me.

According to Glenn Sparks, Ph.D, a professor and associate head of the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University, one reason for the appeal is how you feel after the movie. This is called the excitation transfer process. Sparks’s research found that when people watch frightening films, their heart rate, blood pressure and respiration increases.

Investigators generally use one of two theories to explain why people like horror movies. The first is that the person is not actually afraid, but excited by the movie. The second explanation is that they are willing to endure the terror in order to enjoy a euphoric sense of relief at the end. But, a new study by Eduardo Andrade (University of California, Berkeley) and Joel B. Cohen (University of Florida) appearing in the August issue of the Journal of Consumer Research argues that neither of these theories is correct.

We made this promotion video to go at the beginning of our film. It suits the genre of our film as its dark and uses low level lighting.

Distribution Company

We have chosen this clip to be our distribution company because it suits the theme of our horror movie. Some of the films which have been distributed by this company are Saw, Dead silence, The Tortured.

TEAM MEMBERS

BEN: This is Ben, his role is to play the killer/stalker in our film.
We felt that he would suit this role more than anyone else in our group as he is the tallest and therefore would create a better image for the killer especially considering his costume in a white boiler suit. Also he is the one who watches the most horror films out of us all.

LIAM: This is Liam, his role is to be the camera man.
He has chosen to take this role as he is not comfortable in front of the camera and has prior filming experience from GCSE media therefore he would have more knowledge when it comes to filming and editing

CHLOE: This is me, my role is to play the victim in our film.
We felt I would be suited the best for this role because I am the smallest and therefore would look more vulnerable to our audience. I am also the only female in our group therefore it narrows down who should play the role as the victim because stereotypically, the man would be killing the woman/girl. I also have blonde hair which is a common stereotype of weakness and the apparent 'dumb blonde' connotations.

Including the titles

I have looked at a number of film openings to see how far in they included the titles, this has given us an influence to when we should add ours. I have included screen shots of films and at what point the titles come in.

The Village -
The titles come in straight away at 0:38 seconds and go on until 1:55, as we only have 3 minutes for our film opening, we couldn't waste half our film on the titles and no filming therefore this was a bad example and we only want to spend about 30 seconds on the credits and titles.

Woman In Black -
The titles come in at 2:00 minutes, they allow 1:60 for the introduction to the film, allowing us to realise the time era of the film and to be recognised with some of the characters, also giving hints to what the film is going to be about. This has helped to influence us, as we can add in a bit of filming before we bring in the titles.

Intandem Film Distributors ( IFD ) is a  owned by Intandem Films plc.
It was founed in Spring 2012 and is one of the most truly independent UK Film distributors.
Intandem has taken on one of the most experienced and successful teams ever assembled in a single film distribution company in the UK.
Films released by the members of the team have came up to over £1.5 billion at the UK box office, films such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Toy Story, Independence Day, Juno, Calendar Girls, Star Wars, Titanic. In total, the team has been involved in releasing sixteen out of the top fifty films ever presented in around the UK.

Scream Trailer

In this film, it starts with the killer calling up the girl in her house, asking her questions and shes giving him a flirtatious conversation back. The conversation gets creepy when he says "I want to know who i'm looking at" and suddenly the tension grows. As a group we wanted to include this idea in our film because it makes the killer close and personal yet still anonymous.

Prom Night Trailer

We have used the film Prom Night to inspire us and to use their techniques.
In this film, one man has been obsessed with young female students and tured phsyco, he turns up at Prom and stalks the girls individually to try and kill them. The use of breathy noises and names being called in a gentle voice has been inspiration into how we incorporate things like this into our film.

Influences

The two films 'Scream' and 'Prom Night' have had a major influence on how we planned our film, we have used elements from these films into the way we film ours because we liked their techniques.

Both films are similar in the way that the main characters/victims are females and are being stalked and followed around. The girls in both films are teenagers and most of the time are found alone, therefore allowing the killer/stalker more chances to freak them out. Most of the killings in these films are shot in the location of a party, this made us want to change our location and timing as if the girl has arrived home from a party.
The killers in both these films have an obsession or a strong desire to stalk or kill these girls, we have used elements like these in our film because they stuck out as good techniques.

We wanted the killer/stalker in our film to be anonymous and to be wearing a costume that blocks out his appearance so he is unknown - as like in Scream. We focused mainly on these two films because they suited the style we wanted to film about.
